On Utrecht Cathedral

Utrecht’s cathedral (Dom van Utrecht) once was the largest church in the Netherlands. After a massive storm, only parts of the church survived. The tower of the cathedral still reaches up towards the sky.

Bread Loafs

Close to the southern bank of the river Thames, the Borough Market is tucked underneath the elevated railway lines that run from London Bridge towards Cannon Street and Charing Cross. Speciality food, like the breads in this image, is sold here to locals and tourists alike.

London Eye

This photo of the London Eye was taken from one of the public transport boats that run along the River Thames. I decided to go for a rather narrow composition that accentuates the asymmetric structure of the Ferris Wheel. The black and white accentuates the graphical aspect und thus the structure.

Pillnitz Castle

On a nice summer evening I decided to go to the Kleinzschachwitz ferry landing and walk along the southern bank of the Elbe river where I knew was a good spot for a view of Pillnitz Castle which is most beautiful from the river side.

Semperoper

In the city of Dresden there are plenty of beautiful places, the Altstadt being the most famous. In the evening, I went to Theatre Square for some blue hour photographs of the buildings around that square.

Procession of Princes

I hadn’t been to Dresden for a couple of years, so it was definitely time for another visit. My first visits to the city had been back in the days when Germany was divided. It was on one visit with my family, that I saw the Fürstenzug (which is the German name for this mural) for the first time.

Tree Frog

The father of a friend of mine lives not only in a beautiful old half-timbered house but also has created a marvellous wildlife garden. Over many years he has created a quite large area with a pond with only those plants that have originally inhabited this area. The garden is his contribution to providing a sustainable habitat for the wildlife, insects in particular, but also others like tree frogs.

Shooting Straight Into Lightroom With EOS Utility 2

There are basically two situations where you might want to access your camera from inside your photography software. One is tethered shooting, i.e. remote control of your camera from within your software. The second is to immediately send any photos taken with your camera to the computer. With the EOS 6D both can be achieved wirelessly without the need to buy any extra equipment. And although as of today Adobe Lightroom doesn’t support tethered shooting with the 6D, you can use EOS Utility as a “bridge” to achieve the desired results.

Six Months With the 6D

It was end of November 2012 when I got hold of a EOS 6D to replace the 60D. With half a year gone and some 4000 photos taken, the time has come to write down my first impressions.

Adobe Lightroom 4
Adobe Lightroom 4

After having used Apple Aperture for a couple of years, I decided to move to Adobe Lightroom. Here are some remarks about that move and a short description of my basic workflow with the (for me) new software.
