Licensing

Unless stated otherwise in the caption or in the EXIF data, my photos on this website are published under a Creative Commons License (Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 – or CC BY-NC-SA 3.0 for short) that allows you to share my photos in your own publications as long as you give appropriate credit (by providing my full name, a copyright and license notice and a link to the photo on this site next to where you are using it) and do not use it for commercial purposes. You are also allowed to modify my photo or build upon it as long as you publish your contribution under the same license as my photo. Photos showing people are an exception and may not be distributed or used for any purpose without my explicit consent in written form on paper or as an email.

If you are in doubt whether your planned use of my photo is commercial, please contact me at the address given here. I will usually allow the use of my photo in “slightly commercial” contexts and for non-profit organizations. However, due to bad experiences I like to be asked. If you want to use one of my photos for commercial purposes, please don’t hesitate to contact me as well to obtain a permisson.

Prints

Most of my photos are available as original prints in limited editions. “Original prints” here means that these are prints above a certain size which are authorized by me and signed if you wish so; of course those photos under a Creative Commons License can be printed by anyone including yourself but may not be sold or used for any other commercial purpose. The number of original prints is usually limited to ten but may vary. Along with each print comes a certificate assuring the authenticity of the print.

If you are interested in buying an original print, don’t hesitate to contact me at the address given here to discuss the details. Usually, I entrust the people at Whitewall to handle the production and have them send the print to me. I will then check it, sign it (if you wish so), and repackage it together with the certificate of authenticity to send it to you. If you prefer to receive the shipping directly from them, I won’t be able to sign, of course, but shipping cost may be substantially lower. Or if you prefer another producer, I’m willing to give it a try – though I can’t guarantee for the quality if I have never worked with them before.

Speaking of cost: This depends on various factors. One is obviously the print product you are choosing – the materials, the frame etc. and also the size. I will usually have a suggestion in mind on what I think looks best, but am open for your preferences. Another factor is how many prints are left in the edition. Once the maximum number (usually ten) have been sold, there will be no more original prints available. For that reason, the price for the later prints will probably go up. Please contact me to discuss the details if you are interested in buying a print.
