London Eye
London Eye

London is one of my favourite cities to visit. After my first visits in the late 1970s and early 1980s, my first real photo trip with my best friend followed in 1989. The photos we took then, in particular the ones in the Docklands, almost have historical value today – back then the area was probably the largest construction site in Europe.

I didn’t return to London for quite a while after that, but since 2004 I have regularly visited the city, not always for photography but for various reasons. This photo of the London Eye was taken from one of the public transport boats that run along the River Thames. I decided to go for a rather narrow composition that accentuates the asymmetric structure of the Ferris Wheel. There is also a colour version of this image; however I like black and white better here because it stresses the graphical aspect und thus the structure.

This photograph was made with a Canon EOS 6D and an EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM lens at 200mm. The exposure was 1/1600 second at f/5 and ISO 200. The photograph was edited and converted to black and white in Adobe Lightroom. You can find this photo along with others from various trips to London in my album London.
