Since I started with photography, I have used quite a few cameras, lenses and other equipment. Here, you can find a couple of reviews. All of this gear has been bought by myself or I received it as a present from a friend or family. I am not sponsored by anybody and did not receive any of the gear by any manufacturer. However, some of the items have been on loan from my local photo dealer – Fotoshop Paderborn – who I would like to thank here. All opinions expressed here are my own and have not been influenced by either a manufacturer or a dealer.

Canon EOS 6D

When the Canon EOS 6D became available in late November 2012, it was Canon’s first “budget” or “entry-level” full-frame camera at an introductory price of US$ 2100. Initial comments were mixed, praising or cursing some of the camera’s features such as built-in Wi-Fi and GPS. While most people welcomed the highly sensitive central autofocus point, many were disappointed by the fact that the AF system had only 11 points where the 5D Mark III already had 61, with only the central point being of cross-type where even the five year old 40D had had 9 cross-type AF points. Plus there were a number of other features that didn’t meet the expectations of many reviewers. Yet, many people who own the camera are very happy with it – and that’s not just because they can’t afford or are not willing to pay for a 5D Mark III. Here are the facts about the Canon EOS 6D.

Canon EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM

2012 was a good year for wide-angle lovers shooting with Canon lenses. In June, the 24mm f/2.8 and 28mm f/2.8 prime lenses were updated with completely new constructions now featuring a USM drive and also an image stabilizer. At the end of the year, Canon added a 35mm f/2 lens to complete the line-up of moderately fast wide-angle primes. Canon was also active introducing zoom lenses, updating the 24-70mm f/2.8 to version II and introducing a lens of the same range with f/4. The lenses initially were anything but low-priced, but prices have come down significantly. This review takes a look at the EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM.

Canon EF 35mm f/2 IS USM

In December, 2012, Canon updated their 35mm f/2 lens – at last! As you can tell from the longer name, the new EF 35mm f/2 IS USM finally features an ultrasonic autofocus motor and also introduces an image stabilizer. It is a completely new construction. As to my knowledge, this is the first 35mm prime lens for the Canon system (or maybe any?) with an image stabilizer and you might well wonder if this technology is helpful in a moderate wide-angle lens. With this lens, Canon completes the line of non-L wide-angle primes after the 24mm f/2.8 and 28mm f/2.8 had been upgraded to new versions earlier in 2012 – now also featuring USM drives and image stabilization. These are my thoughts about the EF 35mm f/2 IS USM.
