Dresden: Pillnitz Castle
Dresden: Pillnitz Castle

Dresden has been my favorite city in Germany since a friend of mine who has always lived in Dresden showed to me the beauty of the city and its surroundings. On the particular day this photograph was shot, I went to the Oberlausitz, Bautzen and the village of Kirschau where my grandparents and my aunt with her family had lived for many years.

Returning to Dresden, I decided to go to the Kleinzschachwitz ferry landing and walk along the southern bank of the Elbe river where I knew was a good spot for a view of Pillnitz Castle which is most beautiful from the river side. At the point where I decided to make the photograph an island in the Elbe river adds to the foreground.

Over a time spanning almost two hours, I made twelve photographs at different focal lengths. This photograph was made with a Canon EOS 6D and an EF 35 mm f/2 IS USM lens. The exposure was 10 seconds at f/8 and ISO 200. The photograph was edited in Adobe Lightroom and cropped to a 2:1 ratio. This photo is also in my portfolio and is available as a limited edition print. You can find this photo along with others from this trip in my album Dresden.
