Paderborn Cathedral
Paderborn Cathedral

The Cathedral of Paderborn is a building that is featured quite often in my photos, being probably the most prominent building of the city where I live. In this week, an interesting group has visited the city and organized a couple of small events: the Stadtdenker – literally the city thinkers. This is a group of young people, most of them students of architecture, with their professor who have never been to Paderborn before and try to discover what the city is like to develop ideas for what the city might be like. For that purpose they involve us, the locals, into different activities that stimulate us to take a fresh look at what we see every day, and show and tell about the places we like best – or least. The reason for this visit is a major redevelopment project that will start soon right in the centre of the city. Right there, in the 1970’s a complex of buildings with shops and underground parking was built which today most people living here perceive as a huge eyesore and something that should never have been built.

One of the activities organized by the group was the opportunity to get to some places on rooftops or in flats on the top-most floor of a few buildings. This allowed to get some perspectives onto the city that you usually can’t experience. From one of those spots, this photograph of Paderborn Cathedral was made with a Canon EOS 6D and an EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM lens. The exposure was 1/400 second at f/8 and ISO 200. The photograph was edited in Adobe Lightroom. You can find this photo along with others from my the city where I live in my album Paderborn.
