Abel Tasman National Park: Breaker Bay
Abel Tasman National Park, New Zealand: Breaker Bay

Abel Tasman National Park in the northern part of New Zealand’s South Island is well known for its beaches, lots of sunshine and almost tropical feel. Whether you choose to drive by car to some of the beautiful spots, take a walk along the coastline, paddle a kayak from bay to bay or take a cruise onboard a water taxi – there is almost no way not to enjoy this part of the country.

I spent two nights at the small village of Riwaka where I arrived around noon. I decided to scout the area north of that village towards and beyond Kaiteriteri by car and went on a couple of short walks to get a feeling of the place. One of those side trips led me to Breaker Bay. While this photo was taken in the very early afternoon – not the best of times for good light –, I think that the contrast and bright colours give a good impression of the summer feeling and warm temperatures of that day.

The photograph was made with a Canon EOS 6D and an EF 35mm f/2 IS USM lens. The exposure was 1/125 second at f/8 and ISO 200. The photograph was edited in Adobe Lightroom. You can find all of these photos along with others from this journey across New Zealand’s South Island in my album New Zealand 2013 or on Flickr.
