Paderborn: Geissel Gardens and Cathedral Deanery

In the middle of December, winter made a short visit to the city where I live, adding the right atmosphere to the Christmas market in the city. With fresh snow, everything also seems to slow down a bit and things go a little quiet. This is particularly true for this nice place right in the city centre, the Geissel Gardens.

Located to the north of the Cathedral and the Ottonian Palace and below those two, right between some of the Pader springs, the Geissel Gardens are a small park that accomodates the city’s public library. Built in the years 1676 to 1678 as Cathedral Deanery and extended in 1740, it served as a court building from 1815 on. After the allied bombing of the city in 1945, only the external walls survived. In the 1970’s the building was reconstructed by integrating an open steel construction inside the historic walls. On the outside, it still has a 17th century appearance though there are modern sculptures and lamp posts in the gardens.

Up to this day, I had only taken a couple of test photos with my new EOS 6D. So this was the first time with the new camera that I wanted to take some “real” photos. This photograph was made with a Canon EOS 6D and an EF 20-35mm f/3.5-4.5 USM lens. The exposure was 1.3 seconds at f/4.5 and ISO 200. The photograph was edited in Adobe Lightroom. You can find this photo along with others from my the city where I live in my album Paderborn.
