This second sequence of test shots with my new EOS 6D consists of photos at again different ISO settings, this time, however, also with different settings for in-camera noise reduction: standard, disabled, and the quite new multi shot noise reduction. Noise reduction is only applied when you take JPEGs with the camera, the last method can even only be chosen when recording RAWs is disabled. The reason for this is the special way in which the photos are being recorded: With multi shot noise reduction, four photos are being taken in a burst and then merged into a single JPEG image averaging out the recorded noise. As you can see, the result is pretty impressive, albeit at the price, of course, that you need to take four photos, thus effectively needing more time and requiring you to hold the camera still during the process.

My images were taken from a tripod so that camera shake was no problem. You can, however, even use this handheld; the camera then does some shifting of the individual exposures before combining them into one. In that case, the resulting image is slightly cropped from the individual exposures. All photos were taken with an EF 50mm f/1.4 USM at different shutter speeds and aperture values. They were imported into Apple Aperture with that software’s standard settings and published to Flickr. Feel free to take a look at the image in full size along with the other images of this sequence in my Flickr album Test Canon EOS 6D.
